Configuring a DNS Proxy

The Hillstone device acts as a DNS proxy server and provides proxy service for the connected PCs and other clients.

To enable a DNS proxy, take the following steps:

  1. Configure a DNS proxy list that contains domain names and corresponding DNS servers.
  2. Enable DNS proxy on an interface of the Hillstone device (for more details, see Configuring an Interface).
  3. Connect the client to the interface with DNS proxy enabled.

Options in the DNS Proxy Configuration dialog:

Option Description
Domain Type Specify a suffix for a domain name:
  • Any Domain: Any domain name suffix.
  • User-defined: Defines a domain name suffix. Click User-defined and type the domain name into the text box below.
Domain Server

Specify a DNS server or servers:

  • Use system: Uses the DNS server bundled with the system.
  • User-defined: Defines an IP address/addresses for the server. Click User-defined and select a virtual router from the Virtual Router drop-down list, then type the IP address for the DNS servers into the text boxes below (6 servers at most).
