Hillstone recently introduced a new, stand-alone SD-WAN solution, called HSM for SD-WAN. This is an important milestone for both Hillstone and our customers. It expands upon previous Hillstone Security Management Platform (HSM) versions to provide the first dedicated SD-WAN controller, manager and orchestrator for our secure SD-WAN solution.
Incorporating key capabilities of its predecessors, HSM for SD-WAN offers advanced capabilities including application-aware path selection, zero-touch provisioning rapid business workflow orchestration; and deep network visibility.

Simplified orchestration with advanced overlay automation and zero-touch provisioning
Perhaps one of the most difficult and error-prone tasks associated with SD-WAN is establishing the VPN overlay network. By building templates for configurations and policies, HSM for SD-WAN automates this process with support for multiple transport types (Ethernet, MPLS, etc.) and hub-and-spoke or mesh topology (full mesh and partial mesh).
The solution also supports zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) of devices in the field with preconfigured settings. This significantly reduces configuration overhead, speeds up delivery of security services, and increases reliability, especially for large-scale deployments.
Global unified network visibility with dynamic health monitoring

Optimized application performance with intelligent routing and content awareness
Achieving high application performance can be complicated and time-consuming. HSM for SD-WAN leverages its high network visibility, support for multiple transports, and StoneOS’s application awareness to achieve high application performance that helps ensure an optimum user experience. Traffic can be intelligently steered based on the applications or services, as well as the policies in effect and the dynamic status of the underlying transport.
For example, HSM can take advantage of inexpensive broadband internet services to intelligently route trusted SaaS traffic directly from remote branches to a public cloud data center.
